Professor Activator
Billy went to Vanderbilt undergrad and UVA for his Master's and PhD, which is where he met David and Rob. Like Rob and David, he's had a variety of work experiences including: a middle school creator and director and high school teacher in Tennessee, community college teacher, professor at North Carolina State, white water raft guide in California, Peace Corps administrator, U.S. Senator's aide in Washington, and camp counselor in Brazil. He's currently an Associate Professor in Community Engagement at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand.
The focus of his work there, and with Gamr, is around guiding people to reflect on their experiences and see what is transferable to other areas. After the devastating earthquakes in 2010 and 2011, he had a lot of students volunteer in the relief efforts. He created a course for them to bring those experiences into the classroom and validate the importance of what they had done. Since then, this idea of having students volunteer in the community has become a major part of the undergraduate experience at his university, and is something he intends to transfer over to the global gaming community.
